Memorial Funeral Chapel has been serving area families since 1972. Memorial Funeral Chapel was founded by J.A. Stalcup, Jr. and Paul E. Estep, and continues to be locally owned and operated.

Paul E. Estep
Mr. Paul E. Estep was born March 14, 1933 to George and Bessie Norris Estep of Stoney Creek, Carter County, TN. A grandson of the late Sam and Susan Grindstaff Estep and Roby and Susan Robinson Norris of Johnson County, TN.
Paul attended school at Midway Elementary and Unaka High School He started working in a funeral home in Elizabethton in 1955. He was a member of the Dashiell Masonic Lodge # 238, the Jericho Temple, Scottish Rite and the American Legion. He was a Veteran of the Korean Conflict. Paul grew up in Duncan Chapel Church located in Stoney Creek and later was a member of Grace Baptist Church in Elizabethton, TN.
His most important achievement was that he was a loving husband to Ola Maxine Elliot Estep, a loving father to Kim Estep Wight and Jill Estep Cooper, and loving grandfather to three grandchildren: Christopher Wright, Jordan Wright and Whitney Wright. He also was a good and loyal friend to his business partner. J.A. Stalcup, Jr.
Mr. Paul E. Estep is succeeded in the business by the Estep Family along with Mr. J. A. Stalcup, Jr.

Mr. J.A. Stalcup, Jr.
Mr. J.A. Stalcup Jr. was born May 19, 1944 in Butler, Tennessee, to J.A. and Mina Chloe Jones Stalcup.
A grandson of Stacy C. and Alice Arney Stalcup, and James O. and Minnie Gentry Jones.
Mr. Stalcup attended school at Doeville and Doe Elementary School and graduated from the Johnson County High School in 1962. He started working with the late W.Y. Hill at Hill Funeral Home in Mountain City in 1958 and also worked at a funeral home in Elizabethton.
He is a 1964 graduate of the Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Mr. Stalcup has lived in Elizabethton since the opening of Memorial Funeral Chapel in 1972.
He is a member of the Oak Street Baptist Church in Elizabethton.
