Obituary

Stephen Ray Chambers, 73, Elizabethton, passed away Thursday, July 23, 2026. He was born September 26, 1952 in Carter County to the late Wiley Ray and Ruby Hyatt Chambers. He was a graduate of Hampton High School and East Tennessee State University. He was retired from Kennametal. Stephen served 14 years on the Carter County School Board, 6 years on the Carter County Commission and four years on the County Planning Commission. He was a Lifetime Musician. He was a member of the Bulls Eye Band for 30 plus years. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son: Alexander (Alex) Chambers and a brother: David M. Chambers. He was of the Christian Faith. He was an avid UT Fan.

Survivors include his wife of 49 years: Cynthia Ward Chambers. One Daughter: Stephanie (Beth) Whitehead and husband Corey. One Grandson; Dylan Whitehead, One Granddaughter: Jada Whitehead. One Brother: Tim Chambers and fiance’ Patty Cornett, One Sister: Regina Barkley and husband Will. Several nieces and nephews. His best four legged furry friend of 17 years “Nanook”.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 28, 2026 in Memorial Funeral Chapel with Mr. Tim Chambers officiating. Graveside Service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 29, 2026 in the Chambers Cemetery (0ff Siam Road) with Mr. Will Barkley officiating. Active Pallbearers who are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday will be: Dylan Whitehead, Corey Whitehead, Jordan Eller, Logan Bardo, Tim Ward, Drew Chambers, Rusty Chambers and Will Barkley. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Rex Ward, Randall Vines, Eddie Lipps, Tommy Jenkins, Rick Whitehead and Members of the Bulls Eye Band. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, prior to the service. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday to go to the cemetery.
