Mar 11, 1950 — Jul 24, 2026
JOHNSON CITY
Sidney G McMichael (76) of Johnson City, TN passed away on Friday, July 24 at the Life Care Center of Elizabethton, TN.
Sidney was born March 11, 1950 in Charlotte, NC. He was the son of David S. and Dorothy R. (Rae) McMichael. His parents moved the family to Arlington, VA where Sidney grew up. Sidney met his wife-to-be, Marilyn J. Dolgner, at the Columbia International University in SC. They married on December 7,1991 in Randolph, WI.
Sidney trusted the Lord Jesus as his Savior at age twelve and devoted his life to serving Him. He led Bible studies in high school and later while attending George Mason University. He earned a B.A. in History from George Mason and an M.A. from CIU. He loved history and music, especially singing and playing the violin, piano, and organ.
Sidney joined CRU (Campus Crusade), serving with them for five years, beginning in campus ministry and later as part of a traveling musical team. Circumstances brought him home, where he worked for EFMA (Evangelical Foreign Missions Association), securing visas from embassies in Washington, D.C., for missionaries. His wife introduced him to CEF® (Child Evangelism Fellowship®), and he graduated from CEF’s Children’s Ministry Institute in 1994. Sidney began serving as a full-time missionary, first as the CEF Metro/State director in Washington DC and then as the CEF Executive Director in Detroit. After seventeen years in Detroit, he and Marilyn retired to Johnson City, TN, where he continued serving as a CEF volunteer and joined Antioch Baptist Church of Johnson City.
Sidney is survived by his wife of 36 years, Marilyn; his sister Barbara McMichael; his niece Gina McMichael; and two great nieces, Cathy McMichael and Charlotte McMichael. He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother, Jerry.
Visitation will be held at Antioch Church on Saturday, August 1, 2026 from 12 noon to 1 p.m.; followed by a Celebration of Life service at 1 P.M. Pastor Pete Tackett will officiate.
