Sandra Katrina Byrd Proffitt , 58, Roan Mountain passed away Sunday, April 16, 2023 at her residence after an extended illness. She was born in Johnson City, March 31, 1965 to the late Billy & Lathania Hughes Byrd, but had lived her entire life in Roan Mountain. She was a graduate of Cloudland High School and attended Herman Robinson Vocational Technical School. Sandra was retired from the Carter County School System as a special aide teacher. She loved her grandchildren, farming and her cats. She was a member of the Roan Mountain Volunteer Fire Department. Sandra was of the Baptist Faith.

Survivors include her husband: Terry Proffitt. One Daughter: Renee & Husband Adam Clawson. Two Grandchildren: Carson and Connor. Her Brother: Randy Byrd & wife Kim. Her Niece: Daranda Morgan & Husband Chad, Her Nephew: Mark Byrd & wife Brittany. Her four legged buddy, Chloe and her cats.

Graveside Service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Graybeal Cemetery, Roan Mountain with Ronnie Lackey officiating. Burial will follow the service. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Members of the Roan Mountain Volunteer Fire Department and members of the Carter County Highway Department and Johnny Ledford. The family would like to express a special thank you to the staff of Amedisys Hospice and Dr. Adams. Family and friends will assemble at the cemetery at 1:45 p.m. Thursday.
