Obituary

Rusty Rumley, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and patriot, passed away peacefully on May 22, 2025, at the age of 81. Born on March 5, 1944, Rusty lived a life defined by honor, service, and deep devotion to his family and country.

A proud and decorated veteran, Rusty served in the U.S. military with distinction, rising to the rank of Sergeant Major. His tours in Vietnam and Korea exemplified his courage and unwavering commitment to defending the freedoms we hold dear. His profound love for his country was matched only by the love he had for his family.

Rusty was the proud father of two daughters, Annette and Dusty, and the cherished grandfather to a host of grandchildren who were, without question, the light of his life. He is survived by one brother Howard Rumley and two sisters Pearl Massengill and Penny Rumley, numerous nieces and nephews that he loved. Rusty had a special friendship with a former cadet, George Hutchinson, who he loved like a son.   Left to mourn him are his loving wife, Joyce Rumley; his eldest daughter Annette and her husband Fred Gibson; his son Russel Wayne Rumley; his daughter Dusty and her husband Danny Blackburn; and his grandchildren: Maecie and her husband Connor Linville, Zach Woodard, Emily Woodard, Madison Blackburn, Cooper Woodard, Tess Woodard, Nickolas Vanover, Lucas Linville, Abigail Blackburn, and Kinsley Linville. He is preceded in death by his son Rusty Lee Rumley. He adored each of them and took immense joy in their accomplishments, laughter, and simply being together. His presence was a steady source of strength, wisdom, and love for all who knew him.

Rusty's legacy is one of service, strength, and love. He was a man of integrity and a true American patriot who touched countless lives through his character, his dedication, and his unwavering support of others. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered with great respect and boundless love.
