Obituary

Roy Eugene Bailey,86, Unicoi, a loving Christian, was born on October 9, 1936. He served in the United States Air Force as a Technical Sergeant in the Fire and Air Rescue Division, retiring after 20 years. He then went on to work for the Hillsboro County School System in Florida for over 20 years before retiring again. Roy resided in Unicoi County and went to Heaven to be with the Lord from a brief illness on June 30, 2023.

Roy is survived by: his loving wife, Shirley Miller Bailey. His family includes a sister, Barbara Bryant; his children - Cindy Jean Hernandez, Anita Ruth France, John (Christa) Bailey - as well as stepchildren Jimmy Miller, Keith Hughes, Donna (Chip) Lilly, and Pamela (Michael) McGee. He was blessed with 14 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. His special friends were Janice and Kinnie McKinney. Roy was preceded in death by his parents, Garth and Polly Gouge Bailey, two brothers, Bill and Carl Bailey, and a stepson, Norman Miller, Jr.

Roy was a Simerly Creek Believers Fellowship Church member in Hampton, Tennessee, and Shady Hammock Baptist Church in Lake Wales, Florida.

Visitation will be held at Simerly Creek Believers Fellowship Church, 806 Simerly Creek Road, Hampton, Tennessee, at 1:00 PM on July 6, 2023, followed by a funeral service at 3:00 PM at the church. A Military graveside service in Roy's honor will be held at Woodby Hill Cemetery on Jacks Hill Cemetery Road, Unicoi, Tennessee. Jim and Steve Holtsclaw will officiate the funeral and burial services. The pallbearers include Coy Whistenhunt, Keith Hughes, Mike Grindstaff, Roger Banks, Joe Holt, and honorary pallbearer Kinnie McKinney.

Roy was admired and loved by many and will be remembered as a kind and loving man with a tremendous servant's heart. His kindness and love will endure for generations through all his loved ones. One day, we will all be reunited with Roy in the Kingdom of Heaven.
