Robert "Rob" Wangberg, age 62, of Hampton, Tennessee, passed away Wednesday April 22, 2026, at Sycamore Shoals Hospital in Elizabethton. He was born February 26, 1964, in Chico, California, the youngest son of the late Lowell. and Ida Wangberg. He graduated from Durham High School, in Durham, California in 1982 and went on to do two years at Butte Community College where he received an associate's degree in Law enforcement. He worked for Pacific Supply Chico for 10 years and Bobcat of Chico for 25 years before moving to Hampton Tennessee in December of 2021. He was currently employed at East Tenn Rent-All in Johnson City, Tennessee.

He was a loving and playful uncle and father, with a great sense of humor. He was always generous with his time to both family and friends.

Rob was known for his great love of history, visiting many Civil War and American Revolutionary battlefields. He was an avid camper, fisherman, hiker, hunter, gardener, builder, and auto racing enthusiast. He also enjoyed hosting Dungeons and Dragons sessions at our home in Durham, as well as attending Renaissance Fairs. He also volunteered his time with his wife in the overnight hours as a member of Durham Patrol.

Rob was deeply involved with the 2nd California Cavalry Troop where he rode horses 170 miles in period Union gear and did living history demonstrations in Old Town Sacramento during Gold Rush Days. He also successfully completed the 70-mile journey on horseback with members of his Cavalry Troop around the Lake Tahoe Basin in California and Nevada with just what they could carry on pack horses and in saddle bags.

Survivors include his wife: Sandy Wangberg, daugher, Katie Wangberg, his older sister, Josephine Brett and her husband, Armand, his older brother Dale and his wife Lori, and many nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at  2 p.m. Saturday,  May 9, 2026  in  Memorial Funeral Chapel, Elizabethton.  The family will receive friends from 1 to  2 p.m. Saturday prior to the service and burial of the cremations will be in Durham, California.
