Richard Glen Myers, age 76, of Elizabethton, died Monday afternoon, March 9, 2026 in the Select Specialty Hospital in Bristol, Tennessee following an illness of five months. Richard was a native of Elizabethton and the son of the late Floyd Mack "Bitts" Myers and Helen Coleman Myers. Richard grew up in Elizabethton where he attended school and graduated from Elizabethton High School in 1968. He then went on to attend and graduate from East Tennessee State University in 1973 with a mechanical engineering degree. While attending ETSU he met the love of his life Brenda Jones at a Demolay-Rainbow picnic at Watauga Lake. It was love at first sight, after a whirlwind courtship with the pretty little girl from Happy Valley. Following their marriage, they were lifelong sweethearts till Brenda passed away on January 16, 2025. While attending ETSU Richard also worked full time as an inhalation therapist at the old Carter County Memorial Hospital. Richard was also a member of the Carter County Rescue Squad. Following graduation from ETSU Richard went to Big Stone Gap where he taught Anatomy and Physiology for Respiratory Therapist at Mountain Empire Community College. In 1976 Richard and Brenda moved back to Elizabethton and Richard began a very successful career in medical equipment sales, retiring in 2021. He was known, loved and respected by hospital staffs from Nashville to Asheville, and from Chattanooga to Roanoke. During his career he was constantly recognized for excellence in his field.

Church was important to Richard. He worshiped our Lord at First Baptist Church where he had served as a member and chairman of the Deacon Board. He was instrumental in starting the Men's breakfast on the last Saturday of each month. He had served on numerous committees of the church. Richard and Brenda loved to travel with each other and their friends. They enjoyed going to live music concerts, attending over 250 concerts together. He enjoyed listening to music from the 60's. Richard had a wonderful sense of humor, never met a stranger and had a pleasant disposition. He had a servant's heart, was always willing to help others. Besides his parents and Brenda, he was also preceded in death by his brother Jack and a very special friend, Teresa Peeks Norris.

Richard is survived by his son, Matthew Myers and his best friends Lanny Norris and Whitney Norris Tuner, and Landon Turner, Ivy Turner, Sophia Turner, Scarlett Turner, Josie Turner, Oliver Tuner, Sarah Propst, Kristi Norris Johnson, Pam Brown Seigel, Pat and Charles Green, Becky Porch, Richard and Norma Tetrick and David and Deena Bass.

A funeral service for Richard Myers will be conducted at 2:00 PM Friday, March 13, 2026 at First Baptist Church with Rev. Todd Hallman officiating. A eulogy will be given by Richard's son, Matthew Myers. Music will be under the direction of John Bunn who will lead congregational singing. Active pallbearers will be; Ryan Curtis, Lanny Norris, Whitney Norris Turner, Richard Culver, Ron Bowman, David Bass, Jerry Calhoun and Wayne Hayes. Honorary Pallbearers will be members of the Meadows Sunday School and Joe LeCates. Interment will follow the funeral at Happy Valley Memorial Park. The family wishes to thank Dr. Jonathan Bremer and Dr. Brian Wakefield for their many acts of kindness shown to Matthew during Richard's illness. The family will receive friends in the First Baptist Church Friday, March 13, 2026 from 12:30 PM till the start of the service.
