Paul G. "Sonny" Ellis, 89, Roan Mountain, passed away Thursday, August 17, 2023 at his residence. He was born October 1933 in Roan Mountain to the late Paul & Lillian Hoss Ellis. He was a graduate of Cloudland High School and East Tennessee State University. Sonny served in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict. He was retired from the US Government. He was a member of the Lower Shell Creek Christian Church and was an avid fisherman. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother: Mark Ellis.

Survivors include his wife of 64 years: Barbara Snodgrass Ellis. His Children: Lisa Ellis (Tom) Boyle, Lutz, Florida, Melanie Ellis (Jeff) Avjean, Roan Mountain and Shawn Ellis (Jeff) Green, Great Falls, Virginia. His Grandchildren: Lu Smith, Tyler Boyle, Madelyn Avjean, Zachary Avjean, Jessica Smith and Kevin Green. One Brother: Randy Ellis, Roan Mountain.

A Celebration of Life Service will be conducted at a later date. The family would like to express a special thank you to the Staff and nurses of Amedisys Hospice and the Staff of James H.
