Mary Lee Powell Smith, 73, Elizabethton, passed away Friday, May 15, 2026 at the Johnson City Medical Center. A Carter County native she was born August 16, 1952 to the late Homer and Beatrice Blackburn Powell. She was a graduate of Unaka High School. She was employed for several years at Wal Mart. Her favorite hobby was taking care of her grandkids. She last attended East Fairview Free Will Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband: Robert Fletcher Smith, who passed away April 17, 1997 and by a brother Homer Powell, Jr.

Survivors include Her Daughter; Kristy (Brandon) Shell. Two Grandchildren: Maci Shell and Kolby Shell. A special nephew: Josh Guinn and wife Malarie and their children: Lillie, Ian and Ridge, A special Niece: Megan Howell and husband Jake and their children: Sarah, Judah , Ezra and one of the way Elisha. One Sister; Jackie (Bo) Guinn.

Graveside Service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Tuesday, May 19, 2026 in Happy Valley Memorial Park with Pastor Jake Howell officiating. Active Pallbearers who are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 2:20 p.m. Tuesday will be: Brandon Shell, Kolby Shell, Bo Guinn, Josh Guinn, Cooper Morefield, Jake Howell, Pat Guinn, Judah Howell and Ridge Guinn. The family would like to express a special thank you to the staff of 3rd Floor at Franklin-Woods Hospital and the Staff of ICU 2600 Wing, Johnson City Medical Center and also Dr. Notta and nurse Ben Tomberlin.Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 2:20 p.m. Tuesday to go in procession to the cemetery.
