Lawrence Wayne Loving, Sr. 90, of Watauga, TN passed away on May 29 at Lakebridge under V.A. hospice care with Amedisys.

He was born June, 1935 in Richmond, VA. to Elizabeth Loving, Palmyra, (Fluvanna County), VA. He attended Warwick High School in Newport News, VA. Larry served in the US Army in Korea from 1955 to 1956. Upon returning, he worked in the Newport News Shipyard. He met and married Joyce Roberson in 1958, In 1963, he moved to Elizabethton, TN. Larry was a pipefitter, welder, foreman and supervisor for various contractors at Eastman, Kingsport, TN for 35 years. He was an avid sports fan and coached Jr. Babe Ruth Baseball from 1972 to 1980 in Elizabethton, TN. He loved animals, metal detecting and NASCAR.

Those left to cherish his memory include a brother, Buster Stillwell (Beth) Newport News, Va., his three sons, Lawrence Wayne Loving, Jr. (Ruth) Johnson City, TN, Wendell Field Loving, Sr. Watauga, TN, and Matthew Lynn Loving (Lisa) Gray, TN. Nine grandchildren: Andrew Loving, Jessica Walker, Wendell Loving, Jr., Lawrence (Law) Loving III, Logan Loving, twins: Everett Loving, Sr. and Landry Webber, Dr. Danielle Cates, and Matthew Loving. In addition he has seventeen great-grandchildren. His legacy which is continuing through his grandchildren and great grandchildren is a strong one!

Internment and a military service will be held at the Mountain Home National Cemetery for family and friends, June 5, 2026 at 1pm.

The family extends a special thank you to the doctors, nurses and staff of Lakebridge, Amedisys, and the V.A. Hospital for the kindness and loving care he received. They treated Larry with the utmost care and compassion which was very much appreciated during his brief illness. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent to St. Judes Children’s Hospital.

Graveside Service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday, June 5, 2026 at Mountain Home Cemetery. Military Honors will be provided. Family and friends will assemble at the cemetery at 12:50 p.m. Friday. Condolences may be sent to the family at our web-site www.memorialfcelizabethton.com.
