ROAN MOUNTAIN
Larry Wayne Whitehead, Sr., 67, Roan Mountain, a loving father, grandfather, a loyal friend and a true original passed away on Sunday, May 17, 2026 in the Sycamore Shoals Hospital. A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Gurney & Ruby Roberson Whitehead. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends while racing or camping, and he specially enjoyed just spending time with his grandkids. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Steve Whitehead and a brother-in-law: John “Buzz” Glover.
Those left to cherish his memories are his wife of 46 years: Joyce Morton Whitehead, His Children: Penny Whitehead and her fiance Adam Lane, and Larry Whitehead, Jr. His Grandchildren: Aubree Whitehead, Damien Lane and Austin Lane. Also his siblings: Roger (Phyllis) Whitehead, Mike (Theresa) Whitehead, Patricia Glover, Carol Hill, Donna Hill ,Judy (Wayne) Whitehead, Patty (Steve) Markland, Bobby Morton, Bucky (Michelle) Morton and several nieces and nephews. He loved all his nieces and nephews with his special niece Melissa Johnson Buckles and his special nephews: Nick & Jaydon Johnson, his special friends that were like family to him Trina & Bobby Fultz and Darrell Johnson.
Funeral Services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 21, 2026 in Memorial Funeral Chapel with Pastor Gary Whitehead and Mr. Doug Blevins officiating. Graveside Service and Interment will be at 10 a.m. Friday, May 22, 2026 in the Whitehead Family Cemetery. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. The family would like to thank the Carter County Rescue Squad and the Staff at Sycamore Shoals Hospital for all their help. In lieu of flowers the family ask that you donate to Memorial Funeral Chapel in Larry’s name. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday prior to the service. Family and friends will will assemble at the cemetery at 9:50 a.m. Friday. Condolences may be sent to the family at our web-site www.memorialfcelizabethton.com.
