Johnny Delbert Hicks, 71, Roan Mountain passed away Wednesday, February 12, 2025 in the Johnson City Medical Center. He was born September 8, 1953 in Wise, Virginia to the late Harold and Gertrude Hampton Hicks. He had lived in Carter County most of his life. He was retired from the Carter County School System as a bus driver. He was also a farmer. He was of the Free Will Baptist Faith. In additiion to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters: Georgia Brown, Donna McKinney and Judy Davis.

Survivors include his wife of 48 years: Melba McKinney Hicks. Two Daughters: Khristina Cardwell and husband James and Jessica Hicks and her fiance: Terry Snyder. Three Grandchildren: Lora Cardwell, Matthew Jarrett and Samuel Jarrett. Six Sisters: Vickie Thompson, Shelia Hicks, Bobbie Hicks, Peggy Barlow and husband Glenn, Sue Stevens and husband Ronald and Patsy Ferguson and husband Mike. Two Brothers: David Hicks and wife Teresa and Rick Hicks and wife Sue. Several nieces and nephews. His four legged furry friends "Gladys" and "Roman".

Graveside Service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, February 14, 2025 in the Knight Cemetery, Hampton Creek Road, Roan Mountain with Pastor Brandon Young officiating. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Friends may also visit with the family at the residence. Family and friends will assemble at the cemetery at 1:45 p.m. Friday.
