It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing, of Joan Hughis, age 87, of Elizabethton, TN who passed away on August 18th, 2026. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend.

Born in Brooklyn, New York, she carried a strong work ethic and vibrant spirit throughout her life. She later moved to Florida, where she dedicated years of hard work to Quest Diagnostics, before eventually making her home in Tennessee, where she spent her final, peaceful years. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John Hughis, and her cherished grandson, Jamie Hughis Jr.

She is survived by her four sons and their wives: Johnny (Angie) Hughis, Joseph Hughis, Jeffrey (Lela) Hughis, and her youngest, Jamie Hughis. She also leaves behind her three brothers and their wives: Freddy (Lillian) Kirschenheiter, Robert (Rose) Kirschenheiter, and John (Donna) Kirschenheiter; her sister, Jeannie Kirschenheiter; as well as 8 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and many loving nieces, nephews, and extended family members. Her warmth and love will also be missed by her cherished Pets: Penelope, Sassy, Minnie, and Whitey.

Her life was defined by her devotion to her family, her hard work, and the love she shared with everyone around her. She will be deeply missed, but forever remembered in the hearts of all who knew her.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. Saturday, August 22, 2026 in Memorial Funeral Chapel. A Celebration of Life Service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday by the family.
