Jamie Derick Barnett, born December 31, 1989, departed this life on July 10, 2026. Jamie’s presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Jamie was of the Christian faith, a conviction that guided his actions and was reflected in his gentle, sincere nature. He found solace and joy in the great outdoors, spending many peaceful hours fishing and camping. 

He is survived by his devoted father, Leslie Barnett, whose support and love were a steadfast part of Jamie's life. Jamie’s bonds with his brothers were strong and enduring. He leaves behind Raymond (Geraldlena) Barnett, Joe Lee (Windy) Barnett, Steve (Amy) Barnett, Scotty Barnett, and Travis Barnett, each of whom shared in the journey of family and brotherhood with Jamie. In addition, several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins mourn his loss, as they remember the kindness, laughter, and care he brought into their lives.

Jamie is preceded in death by his beloved mother, Shelia Barnett, with whom he shared a close and loving relationship. The reunion of Jamie and his mother is a comfort to his family and friends as they remember them together in peace.

A memorial service to honor Jamie’s life will be held on Thursday, July 16, 2026, at 7:00 p.m. at Watauga Flats Church of God, with Rev. Andy Guinn, Jr., officiating; 242 Watauga Flats Rd., Johnson City, TN 37601. The family will receive friends from 6-7 p.m. prior to the service.  All who knew Jamie are invited to gather and reflect on the many ways he touched the lives of those around him. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to his father.
