James Henry Smiley, 47, passed away unexpectedly April 4, 2026 at home in Elizabethton. He assisted his Mother with daily caregiving, which he was devoted to and did lovingly.

He was the son of Jimmy Smiley and Patsy Fish & stepfather, Eddie Fish

His love for sports came at an early age playing soccer, basketball & baseball in the Johnson City Little League. He happily cheered on the Tennessee Vols and the Washington Redskins. His time spent with his grandson, Bentley, brought him immense joy. Their play time was filled with laughter, hugs and kisses and smiles on their faces.

He is proceeded in death by his grandparents Bob and Maxine Smiley, Henry and Sue Mosley & Stepmother Debbie Hall Smiley. Also special cousin, Andy Cochran.

In addition to his parents, survivors include his daughter, Briana Smiley, grandson, Bentley Smiley, sister, Christy Smiley, stepbrothers, Ti Fish, Jamie Fish, Mathew Hall, stepsister, Katie Case.

He will forever be remembered for his simple, unassuming nature and his kindness to those he loved deeply. No service is planned at this time.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Mini Miracles Ministries, earmarked for Imagine Camp for children

with disabilities in his memory.
