James Harold “Bud” Smith, 88, Elizabethton, passed away Monday, August 24, 2026 in the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center. He was born December 27, 1937 in Bluff City to the late James Spurgeon and Verna Perry Smith. Bud served in the United States Army. He was retired from North American Rayon Corporation. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife: Jo Ann Carr Smith, who passed away September 24, 2025 and five sisters and two brothers. He was a member of Bunker Hill Christian Church.

Survivors include his Three Children: Nena (Dawaine) Stanbery, Amy (Bo) McCready and Marcy (Benny) Baird. Three Grandchildren; Jenny (James) Harrell, Brandon (Hannah) McCready and Tyler (Ariana) McCready. Six Great Grandchildren and one on the way. Two Brothers: Lonnie (Rose) Smith and Ivan (Brenda) Smith. Several nieces and nephews.

Graveside Service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, August 27, 2026 in the Mountain Home National Cemetery (Historic Section) with Pastor Grant Foster officiating. Military Honors will be provided. Friends may visit with the family at his residence. Family and friends will assemble at the cemetery at 10:50 a.m. Thursday.
