Jack Curtis Hughes of Hampton, TN passed away at his residence on April 22, 2024. Born October 3, 1945, he was a resident of Carter County and grew up in the Coal Chute Community of Valley Forge. He was retired from Lance Corporation and former owner and operator of M & L Vendors. He was a member of Doe River Baptist Church, but attended Hampton First Baptist until declining health prevented him from doing so. He was a member of the 1963 graduating class of Elizabethton High School.

Mr. Hughes was the son of the late Toye Evan and Blanche Proveaux Hughes. He was also preceded in death by brothers John, Lester, and Oscar, sisters Christine Matheson, Irene Parker, and Shirley Fair. Also predeceasing him was an infant daughter Shellee Dawn, nieces and nephews, and his fur babies Molly and Pippa.

Survivors include his wife of the home Judy Hughes, daughter Leslee Hughes of Nashville,TN step-daughter Tracie Shelton-Powers (Jimmy) who she lovingly referred to him as Big Daddy or Big D, of Elizabethton, TN. He is also survived by a sister Patsy Frazier (Harold Oaks) Bristol, TN, and a sister-in-law Betty Hughes, Johnson City, TN, and his little friends Ella and Amelia Mick and Hendrix Burchett.

The family would like to thank the amazing staff of Amedisys Hospice including Josh, Heather, Gail, Megan, Maria, Aerial, and everyone who had a part in Jack's care. We would also like to thank Alice Mick for her loving care of Jack.

Friends may register their presence at Memorial Funeral Home, or receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday, April 27th during the hours of 12-2 pm with graveside services at Butler Cemetery, Butler, TN at 2:45. Pallbearers will be Kelly Crain, Mike Nash, Larry Moreland, Jimmy Powers, Bobby Jack Fair, Mickey Fair, Melvin Matheson, Nathaniel Townsend, Shannon Hilemon, Tyler Trusler, and Ricky Hammitt. Honorary pallbearers are John Forbes, Cody Forbes, Michael Harris, Glen Nave, R.V. Arnold, Kent Hyder, Richard Parker, J.D. Parker, Sam Harrison, C.B. Hardin, Josh Finney, and the men of Hampton First Baptist Church. Reverend Norman Markland, Reverend Ronnie Campbell, and Reverend Nathaniel Townsend will officiate the services. Leslee Hughes will present the eulogy. Music will be under the direction of Tracie Shelton-Powers.
