Hazel Smith passed away peacefully, at home, on Sunday, January 11, 2026 surrounded by her family. Hazel was born on December 01, 1945 to Florence and Opie Brumitt. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Steve on January 01, 2009. Also a brother, Harold Brumitt and two sisters, Eula Dean Campbell and Velma Sue Coleman.
Hazel retired from Pharmaseal/Baxter after 29 years. She then worked and retired from Exide Batteries when they closed in 2013. Some of her best friends were made during her time at Baxter. She loved hosting parties for them at her home.
Hazel was a lifelong member at Valley Forge Christian Church. She loved her church family, helping with anything and everything at church. She loved cooking for her family, church family and friends. She especially loved hosting her Valley Forge eighth grade class reunion and her Sunday School Class Dinners.
Those left to cherish her memory are two daughters: Donna Ward and husband Danny, and Crystal Berry and husband Jonah. Two Stepsons: Landon Smith and wife Logan and Logan Smith. Three Grandchildren: Nathan Ward, Summer Hyden and husband Michael and Lola Smith. Three Great Grandchildren: Hayden Hyden, Ellie Hyden and Hayes Hyden. A Sister Joyce (Joe) Williams. Several nieces and nephews and many special friends.
A Service To Celebrate the life of Hazel will be conducted at 6 p.m. Thursday, January 15, 2026 in Memorial Funeral Chapel with Mr. David Siebenaler Minister officiating. Graveside Service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday, January 16, 2026 in Happy Valley Memorial Park with Mr. Todd Wolfe, Minister officiating. Greg Odom will provided the music. Active Pallbearers who are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 9:20 a.m. Friday will be: Nathan Ward, Jonah Berry, Landon Smith, Hayden Hyden, Vince Brumitt, Jeff Brumitt and Michael Hyden. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Danny Ward, Joe Williams, Robert Burns, James Ramsey, Robert Hughes, Mauk Franklin and Robert Franklin. The family would like to thanks the 4200 Floor nurses at JCMC. A very special thank you to Eddie Lopez for taking the sweetest care of mom when she needed it most. Also a thank you to Mary Ann and Jerry and the Hospice Group at Amedysis. The family will receive friends 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 9:20 a.m. Friday to go in procession to the cemetery.
