Haskel M. Broyles

Haskel M. Broyles, age 83, of Elizabethton, Tennessee, passed away on Sunday, July 19, 2026.

Born on October 6, 1942, Haskel was the son of the late Henry Comer Broyles and Nellie Ruth McGee Broyles. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, veteran, and friend whose life was defined by hard work, kindness, and an unwavering love for his family.

Haskel proudly served his country in the United States Army, attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant. Following his military service, he spent many years as a truck driver, where he developed a love for the open road. He never tired of sharing stories from his years behind the wheel, and those stories brought laughter and enjoyment to family and friends alike.

Known for his strong work ethic, Haskel was a man who never met a stranger and was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. He carried a smile wherever he went and was happiest when surrounded by those he loved. In his spare time, he enjoyed working in his garden, spending hours on his tractor, and taking pride in caring for his home and property. Above all else, his greatest joy was his family.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 54 years, Nancy Broyles; his parents; several brothers- Fred Broyles, Preston Broyles, Dewey Broyles, Beryl Broyles, Raymond Broyles, Floyd Broyles, and Conley Broyles; and one sister, Norma Sheffield.

Those left to cherish his memory include his son, Haskel Wayne Broyles of the home; his daughter, Sheila Cunningham and husband, Darrell; his grandchildren, Galvin Woods and wife, Megan, Dalton Woods and wife, Kenzie, Cory Cunningham and wife, Sasha, Traci McClain (Nate) and Jacob Cunningham and wife, Chesney; His sister Edith Scalf of Elizabethton.

He is also survived by his twelve great-grandchildren: Ily Woods, Kaiden Woods, Raiden Woods, Jace Woods, Emmett Woods, Gabe Cunningham, Kayleigh Cunningham, Hayleigh Cunningham, Preston McClain, Millie McClain, Sammie Smith, and Blakely Cunningham, as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends who will forever cherish his memory.

Haskel's legacy is one of love, service, generosity, and perseverance. He taught those around him the value of hard work, the importance of helping others, and the strength found in family. Though he will be deeply missed, the memories he created, the stories he shared, and the love he gave will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

To honor Haskel's proud service in the military and his lifelong passion for trucking, the family invites those attending his service to wear red, white, and blue or your favorite trucker hat. Your participation is a meaningful way to celebrate the dedication, hard work, and patriotism that defined so much of his life.

Funeral services will be conducted at 7pm Friday July 24th at Memorial Funeral Chapel with Pastor Barry Hensley. Vocalist Amanda Kelley. Interment will follow Saturday at 10 a.m. in the Emmert Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Kenneth Woods, Walt Andrews, Will Andrews, Dillon Booher, Carl Miller, and Bobby Carr. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. prior to the service. The family would also like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to the TN Mountain Home C1 Floor and Radiology staff for their continuous outpouring of love, compassion, and exceptional care over the past year. Your kindness, support, and dedication meant more to our family than words can express, and we will always be deeply grateful.
