Gregory Howard Cates, 62, Elizabethton, passed away Thursday, December 5, 2024 in the Johnson City Medical Center. He was born May 11, 1962 in Elizabethton. Greg was a graduate of Elizabethton High School and attended East Tennessee State University. He was retired from Cates Music Center. He was a man of many hobbies, helping people was his number one hobby also shooting, scuba diving, he also restored Military Vehicles. He was also a reserve officer at the Washington County Sheriff Department. Greg was preceded in death by his father, Carl Cates and a brother: Jeffrey Cates who passed away November 4, 2024. He was a member and former Deacon of East River Park Christian Church.
Survivors include his son: Christopher (Brandi) Cates, A Granddaughter: Martha Cates. His Mother: Nell Lowe Cates. His Sister-In-Law: Regina Cates. A nephew: Josh Cates & wife Veronica and their son: Oliver. His Drill Sgt. & Cousin: Jean Peters & husband Leonard.
A Celebration of Life Service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, December 11, 2024 in Memorial Funeral Chapel with Mr. Jason Payne, Minister officiating. Music will be provided by David Arney, Organist. Entombment will follow in the Mausoleum of Faith, Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active Pallbearers will be: Chris Cates, Josh Cates, Robert Benfield, Joe Garber, Victor Price, James Smith and Steven Peters Honorary Pallbearers will be former employees of Cates Music. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to East River Park Christian Church or the Carter County Humane Society.
The family will receive friends from 1 until 2 p.m. Wednesday prior to the service. Condolences may be sent to the family at our website www.memorialfcelizabethton.com.
