Georgia Mae McClain, age 94, of Gray formerly of Newland, NC, passed away on
Wednesday, March 6, 2024, at Franklin Woods Community Hospital in Johnson City, Tennessee.
She was born on May 26, 1929, in Avery County, NC, a daughter of George C Shirley
and Bertha Blalock Shirley. Georgia worked 57 years with the Avery County Bank. She
was a charter member of the Newland United Methodist Church. Georgia enjoyed beach vacations, gardening her flowers, and spending time with her Great Nephew Andrew Whaley.
Along with her parents she is preceded in death by her brother and sister-in-law, Eddie M.. Shirley and Betty Lou Shirley, and her sister Betty Jean Shirley. Georgia leaves behind to cherish her memory: Nephews and Nieces; Debbie (David) Sanders of Johnson City, TN. Eddie (Jane) Shirley II of Knoxville, TN., Diane (Mike) Whaley of Gray, TN., Keith (Barbara) Shirley of Kingsport, TN. Great Nephews and Nieces: Jamie, Aaron, Andrea, John, Andrew and Joshua. Great-Great Nephews and Nieces; Caroline, Ellie Kate, Max, Henry, Lena, Caroline, Jonah, Kaelyn and Carson.
A graveside service for Georgia Mae McClain will be held on Saturday, March 9, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at Happy Valley Memorial Park, 2708 Elizabethton Hwy., Johnson City, TN with her nephew Mr. Eddie Shirley officiating.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Newland United Methodist Church Women's Group, P.O. Box 368, Newland, NC 28657. Family and friends will assemble at the cemetery at 10:50 a.m. Saturday. Condolences may be sent to the family at our web-site www.memorialfcelizabethton.com.
