G. Hugh
Townsend
Nov 21, 1939 — Jul 22, 2026
Elizabethton
Hugh Townsend, Elizabethton, went home to be with the Lord on July 22, 2026. Born on November 21, 1939, Hugh found joy in the simple blessings of life. He loved spending time in nature, horses, a good laugh, and a fresh cup of coffee. Above all, he loved his county, his family, and his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Hugh lived a life defined by faith, service and generosity. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. He proudly served his country in the United States Army and faithfully served his Church for many years as a deacon and Sunday School teacher. His quiet strength, kind heart and unwavering faith left a lasting impression on all who knew him. Due to declining health, he was not able to be active at Siam Baptist church where he was a member. Though Hugh will be deeply missed by his family and friends, they find comfort in knowing that he is at peace in the presence of the Lord. His memory will live on in their hearts until they are reunited with him again.
Hugh is survived by his devoted wife, Shelby Jean Townsend; his sister, Sandy Gill; his sister-in-law, Sue Anderson; his step-daughter, Janna Begole; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Graveside Service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 28, 2026 in Mountain Home National Cemetery (Historic Section) with Rev. Jack Roddy officiating. Military Honors will be provided.
Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Family and friends will assemble at the cemetery at 10:50 a.m. Tuesday. Condolences may be sent to the family at our web-site www.memorialfcelizabethton.com.
