Estel Whitehead, 89, Roan Mountain passed away Sunday, April 12, 2026 in the Johnson City Medical Center. He was born February 28, 1937 in Roan Mountain to the late Joe & Retha Cornett Whitehead. He was a graduate of Cloudland High School. Estel served in the United States Army. He was a Construction Worker. He was a former Supervisor at Virginia Energy and was also known as a Jack of all Trades. He loved gardening, Welding and loved to work in his shop.. He was a member of Little Mountain Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife Peggy Whitehead.
Survivors include his wife: Kathy Lester Whitehead. Two Sons: Jeff Whitehead and Troy (Missy) Whitehead. His Grandchildren: Shea (Ovais) Siddiqui, Taylor (Cassie) Whitehead, Tristan Whitehead and his fiance Lexy and Paige Whitehead. Five Great Grandchildren: Colton, Carson, Carver Whitehead, Aspyn & Rellim Hitechew. His Brother: Jerry Whitehead. His Step-Children: Tammy Brown and Michael Morgan, Five Step-Grandchildren and Four Great Grandchildren>
A Service to Celebrate the Life of Estel will be conducted at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 16, 2026 in Memorial Funeral Chapel with Pastors Gene Carver, Derrick Hughes and Steve Coonse officiating. Entombment will be at 10 a.m. Friday, April 17, 2026 in the Mausoleum of Peace, Happy Valley Memorial Park. Music will be by Tim & Sandra Hughes. Active Pallbearers who are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 9:20 a.m. Friday will be: Rick Whitehead, Joey Whitehead, Tristan Whitehead, Taylor Whitehead, Chris Jones, Gary Jenkins and Ernie Campbell. Honorary Pallbearers will be his church family. Military Honors will be provided. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home prior to the service. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 9:20 a.m. Friday to go in procession to the cemetery. Condolences may be sent to the family at our web-site www.memorialfcelizabethton.com.
