Emma Jean Slemp 6-27-1936-----7-9-2026 Nanas Obituary Nana and Elvis Our Nana loved her Elvis, She'd smile at every song. If "Jailhouse Rock" came on the radio, She'd sing the whole day long. She swore the King was handsome— No one could change her mind. That curled lip and those dancing hips. She said, "One of a kind!" Now Heaven's gained a special soul, With laughter, love, and grace. And Elvis surely spotted her The moment she showed her face. He tipped his crown and flashed that grin, "Well, darlin', where've you been?" Nana smiled and said, "I've waited years... Now let's hear Love Me Tender again!" So when we miss our precious Nan, We'll play an Elvis tune. We'll picture them both singing loud, Beneath Heaven's silver moon. And if the clouds start swaying, Don't wonder what's begun— It's just our Nana dancing with Elvis, Still having all the fun.As this is being written, you'll realize this is not your normal obituary. For we are not saying Goodbye. We are simply saying we'll see you later. For we are not grieving and mouring the loss of our Nana and Aunt Jean. We are celebrating ninety years of life and love of a wonderful lady. Whom we will see again. In her life, she had many jobs and titles But the most important ones to her, Were mom and nana. Nana has taught us many things some bad like how to skip school, and let's not tell your mother, but she taught us mostly good,like how to serve the Lord and be his disciple, how to make a meal out of nothing and cook for an entire village as we were never taught how to cook for just one or two. Because the house was always full of people, love and laughter. We were taught How to treat others the way they should be treated. How to pray in bad times and good. To see the good things and humor in life even though things seem bleak or impossible at that moment. But one very important lesson was if Junior Stalcup was around make sure you hide your ice cream cone, for he will steal it and eat it!!! No matter how many times life kicked her down, she got up, dusted herself off, and kept going, better and strong than before. Even with the loss of her husband and children she found her way thru all the pain, brought light back in to her life and the ones around her. When she would walk into a room it seemed to somehow light up with happiness. Her smile was always genuine, and gentle. Her laughter was contagious and no one could match it. Her hugs were warm and felt like home. Something very few could do. Her door was always open, as long as it was not to early in the morning for she liked to sleep late, and you did not disturb her slumber. If you entered as a stranger you left as family with a full belly, and if needed change in your pocket. Emma Jean Slemp who just celebrated turning 90 on June 27th got to celebrate her late husbands birthday with him on the day she peacefully passed. Hasferd who also would have been 90 on July 9th. What a wonderful Heavenly Surprise for him. However we are pretty sure he will no longer have that peace now that she has joined him in heaven! Mrs Emma Jean (Fair) Slemp was proceeded in death by her husband and Love of her life for 63 years Lee Hasferd Slemp, 1 daughter Valencia Renee Slemp Greenwell Keisler, 1 son Gregory Lee Slemp, 2 Brothers Raymond Fair and Ralph Fair, her parents Stanton and Chassie Fair, brothers and sisters in laws Wayne carter, Hugh Slemp, John L and Betty Slemp,Jimmy Slemp, Jim and Margaret Tuelle, and a great great niece Averee Renee Young. Nana or Aunt Jean as many knew her by was a member of the Welcome Class at Oak Street Baptist Church and ran or worked in the childrens nursery for over 20 years following in her mother's foot steps with her daughter who followed suit. She left behind for now, 1 Grandson Neil Greenwell wife Wendy, 1 Granddaughter Shana Brower boyfriend Bobby, 1 Great Grandson Donavon Brower, 1 Great Granddaughter Maysan Brower, 1 Sister Louise Carter, sisters in laws Elaine Fair, Ann Slemp, brothers and sisters in law Jerry and Janice Slemp, Johnny and Jane Trivette, special nieces Renee Wilkerson, Regina Carpenter and Francie Elrod a many more nieces and nephews, several great nieces and great nephews and several cousins. With special friends Doug Vandeventer his mother Geraldine, Gina Howerton, Janet Widner, Amy Wooten, Todd Isaacs, Kathy Berry, Lois Schaff, Shirley Piper, Tim Hart and mother Mary, Terry Chambers and wife Theresa. As I am sure i am missing several people please forgive me as my brain is not braining as it should. A special thank you to the staff at Sycamore Shoals Hospital and Amedisys Hospice care for the wonderful care she received in her time of need. A Graveside Service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 16, 2026 at Happy Valley Memorial Park with Pastor Chris Shumate and Pastor Jack Greeneo officiating. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. The family will receive friends from 11:30 to 1:30 p.m. Thursday prior to the graveside service.
