Douglas J. Gillenwater, 73, Erwin, passed away Thursday, August 8, 2024 in the Johnson City Medical Center. A native of Unicoi County, he was a son of the late Joe Bill & Lucinda Oaks Gillenwater. He was a retired Construction Worker. He loved to make homemade knives. He was of the Baptist Faith. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife: Hazel R. Gillenwater. Two sisters-in-law: Micky Garland and Angela Marie Casey.

Survivors include his Sons: Douglas Lee Gillenwater and John Paul Gillenwater both of Erwin. His Granddaughters: Kayla Gillenwater, Katy Burk, Breana Gillenwater, Anna Marie Stonecipher and Angel Thomason. Two Sisters: Peggy Jo Quillen, Ft. Blackmore, Va. And Evalena (Tina) Bailey, Erwin, Tn. A Niece, Lisa Wells, Gate City, Va., One Nephew: Toney Quillen, Gate City, Va. 12 Great Grandchildren Two Sisters-In-Law: Kathy Tipton and Mamie King. Three Brothers-In-Law: Freddie Tipton, Art Smith and Carl Smith. Several other nieces and nephews.

It was his wish to be cremated and no services are planned at this time.
