David Reed Markland, 75, of Butler passed away Friday, February 27, 2026, at the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center. David was born October 13, 1950, in Elizabethton to the late Floyd & Beverly Reed Markland. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter: Kim Markland, Two Grandsons: Rickie Berry and Hunter Markland, by his sister: Elizabeth Owens and One Brother: Jim Markland.

David was a 1968 graduate of Elizabethton High School. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam Era. He was retired from Snap-On-Tools after 26 years of service and was a member of Zion Baptist Church. He attended Butler Baptist Church.

Those left to cherish his Memory include his wife of 38 years Nioka Lowe Markland. One Son: David R. Markland II and wife Heather, Johnson City. Two Grandchildren: Josh Berry and Austin Markland. One Sister: Pat Markland of Chuckey and several nieces and nephews.

A Service to Celebrate the life of David will be conducted at 6 p.m. Monday, March 02, 2026, in Memorial Funeral Chapel with Pastor Dan Wood officiating. Graveside Service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 03, 2026, in Happy Valley Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Military Honors will be provided. The family will receive friends from 5 to 6 p.m. Monday in the funeral home. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 12:20 p.m. Tuesday to go to the cemetery.
