David Michael "Mike" Deaton

David Michael "Mike" Deaton, 60, of Elizabethton, passed away Wednesday, September 23, 2026, at his residence. He was born October 20, 1965, in Elizabethton.

Mike graduated from Elizabethton High School and East Tennessee State University with a degree in Criminal Justice. He served in the Marine Corps and spent 25 years with the Kingsport Fire Department. He also owned and operated Deaton Concrete.

An avid outdoorsman, Mike loved fishing and deer hunting, earning him the nickname "The Deer Slayer."

Family meant everything to Mike. He deeply loved his soulmate and wife, Jessica, and was a devoted, proud father to his children. He also cherished being a grandfather to his granddaughters, Taylynn and Paisley, with Paisley holding an especially close place in her Papaw's heart. He was also devoted to his loyal dog, Archie, a beloved member of the family.

Mike was preceded in death by his father, James Deaton, and his brother, Dr. James "Jim" Deaton.

He is survived by his wife, Jessica; his children, Braeden, Abigail (Tyler), Jeremiah, and Hailey (Ryan); his granddaughters, Taylynn and Paisley; his aunt, Pearl Peterson; his sister, Amber (Jeremy); his brother-in-law, Andy; his loyal dog, Archie; and many other family and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, September 28, 2026, at Memorial Funeral Chapel, with John Peters officiating. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Monday, prior to the service. A graveside service will follow at Buckles Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be his many friends.
