Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints. Psalms 116:15
Claude Frankford Andrews, 85, of 133 Dye Leaf Road, Butler, TN, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, July 20th 2023 at Bristol Regional Medical Center following a brief illness. Claude was born on April 27th, 1938 to the late William Joseph and Myrtle Elizabeth (Clawson) Andrews. Claude was a member of Piney Grove Church of Christ where he served as a song leader for a number of years. He was employed by North American Rayon Corporation for over 30 years and served in the U. S. Army. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by an infant son, Dayton Joseph Andrews, brothers Ray, Hugh, Gurney, and Bob Andrews; sisters, Mabel Hardin, Edith Phillips, Bernice Isaacs, and Ruth Andrews, Father-In-Law, Jack Oakes, and Mother-in-Law, Cleo (Potter) Oakes.
Claude had a kind, gentle spirit and was a friend to everyone he met. He enjoyed gardening and was known as "The Watermelon Man" to the children of the community because he would deliver homegrown watermelons to them each summer. He was a story teller with a twinkle in his eye that would shine brighter as each story got bigger. Most of all, Claude loved his family.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 61 years, Orah Lee (Oakes) Andrews; daughter, Julia (Freddy) Lewis; son, Michael (Rachel) Andrews. Grandchildren Brent (Taylor) Tipton, Joseph (Caitlin) Andrews, Matthew (Courtney) Tipton, A.J. (MacKenzie) Andrews, Olivia, Leighlee, Punky and Pippin Andrews, and Cody Waldroup. Great-grandchildren Ashton, Mila, and Tate; sister, Lois Whisnant and brother, Ernest "June" Andrews.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, July 23, rrd from 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm at Memorial Funeral Chapel, Elizabethton, TN. A graveside service will be held at the Isaacs Cemetery, Buck Mountain, Tn at a later date. Honorary pallbearers will be Claude's grandsons.
The family would like to express sincere thanks to Dr. Rachel Monderer and Dr. Ahmed Kahn for keeping him alive many years after other doctors had given up on him. Also, to the nurses and staff of 3 West at the Bristol Regional Medical Center for their wonderful and thoughtful care to us and our loved one during this transition.
