Carroll Wayne Stocton, age 81, of Cove Creek Road, Roan Mountain, stepped into his eternal home in the early morning of December 29, 2023. He was a native of Carter County, and a son of the late Marshall and Mabel Socton. He attended Cloudland High School and was a faithful member of Burbank Free Will Baptist Church.

Wayne enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing and gardening were things he loved. He also loved and enjoyed his family and spending time with them, family gatherings were something he looked forward to as well as a good meal of fried taters, soup beans, corn bread and ramps. He was also a skilled carpenter and enjoyed woodworking projects.

Survivors include Wanda Stocton, his wife of 60 years, of the home, Two Children: Rodney Stocton (Lynn) of Roan Mountain, Shannon Stocton Forbes (Mark) of Buladean, NC., One Sister: Glenda Gouge (Jim) of Roan Mountain, One brother: Ronnie Stocton (Joan) of Roan Mountain. Four Grandchildren: Tristyl Shepard (Alan), Brett Stocton (Beth), Preston Forbes (Sydney), Jon Forbes: Seven Great Grandchidren: Thomas, Kristen, Remington, Addyson, Emily, Lillian and Bethany.

A Service to Celebrate the Life of Wayne Stocton will be conducted at 7 p.m. Thursday, January 4, 2024 at the Burbank Free Will Baptist Church, Roan Mountain, with Pastor Tony Trott and Pastor John L. Stocton officiating. Interment will be at 11 a.m. Friday, January 5, 2024 in the Stocton Cemetery. Music will be provided by the grandkids; Tristyl and Alan Shepard, Beth & Brett Stocton. Pallbearers will be his Grandsons:, Preston Forbes, Jon Forbes, Brett Stocton, Alan Shepard, Mark Forbes and Larry Gouge. Honorary Pallbearers will be his church family. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the church. Family and friends will assemble at Burbank Free Will Baptist Church at 10:20 a.m. Friday to go in procession to the cemetery.
