Brenda Lou Salyer Howell,81, Elizabethton, passed away Thursday,January 11, 2024 in the Ivy Hall Nursing Home. She was born October 25, 1942 in Derby, Virginia to the late Rev. Homer & Iona Eads Salyer but had lived most of her life in Carter County. Brenda was a graduate of Unaka High School. She was employed at Wesley Taylor Accounting for several years. Brenda was a member of Hunter Memorial Baptist Church but attended Riverview Baptist Church. She loved to make candy and work cross word puzzles. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers: Roy & Carlos Salyer and a sister Vera West.

Survivors include her husband of 54 years: Jackie Howell. Four Children: Julie Taylor, Kevin Lewis & wife Melissa, Tina Wilson and Jackie Hatfield & husband Greg. 11 Grandchildren and 7 Great Grandchildren. Two Sisters: Jan Estep and LaDonnia Proffitt & husband Jerry. One Brother: Desler Salyer. Several nieces & nephews.

Graveside Service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Monday, January 15, 2024 in Happy Valley Memorial Park with Pastor Mark Grubb officiating. Active Pallbearers who are requested to assemble at the cemetery at 2:50 p.m. Monday will be: Kevin Lewis, Greg Hatfield, Noah Hatfield, Grayson Hatfield, Adam Lewis and Hunter Hughes. The family would like to express a special thank you to the staff of Ivy Hall Nursing Home for the excellent care she received. Family and friends will assemble at the cemetery at 2:50 p.m. Monday.
