Brenda Marie Holtsclaw, 76, Hampton, passed away Saturday, January 3, 2026, at her residence. She was born December 19, 1949, in Statesville, North Carolina to the late Granville & Myrtle Hicks. She had lived in Carter County since 1985. She had been employed at the Life Care Center of Elizabethton for 21 years. She loved playing softball and pitching Horseshoe. She had been a State Champion in Horseshoe several times. She was a member of God's Blessing Church, Elk Park, North Carolina. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers: Wiley Darnell, Johnny Darnell and Phillips Hicks.
Survivors include her husband of 61 years: William Holtsclaw. Five Children: Sally Halliwell & husband Jim, Robert Holtsclaw and wife Karen, Tracy Holtsclaw and Fiancé Sheila Stines, Beverly Church and husband Tim, and Robbie Holtsclaw and wife Pamela. 17 Grandchildren 22 Great Grandchildren and 2 Great-Great Grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews.
A Service to Celebrate the life of Brenda will be conducted at 7 p.m. Tuesday, January 6, 2026, in Memorial Funeral Chapel with her son Pastor Robert Holtsclaw officiating. Graveside Service and Interment will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, January 7, 2026, in Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active Pallbearers will be Bobby Holtsclaw, Matthew Aldridge, Greyson Holtsclaw, Seth Lindsey, Matthew Holtsclaw and Chris Holtsclaw. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Travis Hollis, Tim Church, David Adkins and Matthew Stevens. The family would like to express a special thank you to the Staff of Amedisys Hospice for the excellent care she received. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 12:20 p.m. Wednesday to go in procession to the cemetery.
