Bobby Joe "Bob" Hughes, 83, Elizabethton, went to be with his Lord Saturday, September 13, 2025, at Franklin-Woods Hospital. He was born September 18, 1941, in Butler to the late Thurman and Sally Stout Hughes. He was a graduate of Elizabethton High School. He attended East Tennessee State College. He was a retired Insurance Agent having retired from American General after 40 years.  Bob was a people person, loved talking with people. He was a member of Valley Forge Free Will Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years Roberta Buckles Hughes.

Survivors include his Children: Donna Honeycutt, Kim Eggers, Bobbie Jo (Darrell) Hardin and Wendy Mathes. Four Grandchildren: Stephanie McKinney, Bobby Williams, Justin Hardin and John Hardin. Six Great Grandchildren: A.J. Hardin, Aubrey Hardin, Camryn Hardin, Piper Hardin, Colin Booth and Adalyn Poyner. One Brother: William Kenneth Hughes. A special nephew who was like a son: Shane Buckles (Elizabeth). Two Special Nieces: Haley Buckles and Nicole Polichnowski. Special friends who were like daughters: Kathy Zannis and Vicki Wilson.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, September 17, 2025, in Memorial Funeral Chapel with Pastor Randy Johnson and Pastor Mark Potter officiating. The family will receive friends from 12 until 2 p.m. prior to the service Wednesday. Music will be by Dale Williams. Active Pallbearers will be: Shane Buckles, John Hardin, Justin Hardin, Ron Kirby, Tony Jones and Myron Wilson. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Larry Jeffers, Darrell Hardin, Larry Collins, Jerry Royston, Glenn Grindstaff, Mickey Mathis, Dan Walker, Shawn Shuffler, his church family, and the Board of Directors at Lingerfelt Pharmacy. The family would like to express a special thank you to the Staff of Franklin Woods Hospital, The Staff of Ivy Hall Nursing Home and all of his doctors for the excellent care he received during his stay.
