Obituary

Betty Hensley, 82, passed away peacefully on April 5, 2023 in Johnson City, Tennessee. She was born in Butler, Tennessee in 1940. Surviving her are her daughters, Julie Hensley (Allen Kinter), and Kathy Baker (Joe), her grandson, William Harris, and her brother, Billy Nelson. Her devoted Husband, Gary N. Hensley, and her parents, Fannie and Joe Nelson preceded her in death.

Betty was a 1958 graduate of Elizabethton High School. She earned a degree in nursing from the University of Tennessee in 1961. Betty met her beloved husband of 60 years, Gary N. Hensley, in Knoxville, Tennessee while attending college and then moved with him to Japan, Tennessee, Virginia, and finally Danville, where they lived in for 44 years and raised their family. After Gary's death 2022, Betty returned to live in East Tennessee.

Betty worked as a registered nurse in several hospitals and later acquired a picture-framing business. She was a member of the Danville Beautification Committee for 20 years, serving as Chairman for several years. She was also a longtime member of the Lexington Avenue Baptist Church and an enthusiastic booster club member for her grandson's football team.

Betty loved her family, her pets, and her friends. Her hobbies included gardening, feeding and watching birds, playing tennis, various crafts, and cooking delicious food. She was a beautiful, smart, strong, kind, generous, and energetic woman with many talents.

A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, May 6 at Preston Pruitt Spurlin Funeral Home, 331 S 4th Street, Danville, Kentucky, 40422. Visitation will begin at 1:00 pm.
