Betty Jean Carr, 96, Elizabethton went home to be with her Lord, Thursday, October 16, 2025. A lifelong resident of Elizabethton, Tennessee she was born to the late James Lawrence and Gladys (Clark) Gouge. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Carr. Her siblings, Martha June (Gouge) Barbre, James L. Gouge, Carl Gouge, Sarah Beth (Gouge) Schaag and Alan Gouge.
Immediate survivors include Brothers & Sisters-in-Law: Ronnie (Kimberly) Gouge, Dallas, Georgia, Gary (Cathy) Gouge, Elizabethton, Tennessee and Glen (JoAnn) Gouge, Elizabethton, Tennessee. Numerous Nieces & Nephews from the large Carr and Gouge families. Special "family" and friends, David and Donna Asher.
Betty was a graduate of Elizabethton High School and attended East Tennessee State College. Betty's friendly, smiling face greeted customers at Watson's and Peebles for over 55 years. Betty loved to travel and became a seasoned world traveler, always bringing back a treasured collectors plate from each of the countries she was touring. In her later years, she enjoyed working puzzles and playing Mexican Domino's with her friends and family. Betty was a devoted Christian and spent the last years of her life as an active member of Hunter First Baptist Church.
A Celebration of Life Service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, October 23, 2025 in Memorial Funeral Chapel with Pastor Stephen Nauman and Pastor Jon Barnett officiating. Graveside Service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Mountain Home National Cemetery (Historic Section). Music will be provided by Patty Hodge and Glen Gouge. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. The family will receive friends 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday prior to the service. Everyone will meet at the cemetery at 12:45 p.m. Thursday.
