On Sunday August 24,2025, Dr. Allen Elvin Smith, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and educator, walked through Heaven's pearly gates. Allen was welcomed into his eternal home by those who preceded in death, his parents- Elvin and Henrietta Smith, Sister- Shirley McCollister, Father-in-law- Gordon Nidiffer, and his son- Joshua Atkinson.

He leaves behind his loving wife, Teresa Smith; children Kyle Smith (Desiree), Garrett Smith, and Ashley Hartley (Phillip); and his cherished grandchildren, Ciara White, Elijah Whicker, Carson Atkinson, Levi Smith, and Isaac Smith, who will carry his legacy forward with love and pride. Also left to cherish his memories are his sister Patricia Ridgeway (Boyd) and several nieces and nephews.

A lifelong professor at both East Tennessee State University and Francis Marion University in Florence, SC. Allen dedicated his career to sharing knowledge and inspiring his students. Outside of the classroom, Allen found joy in the outdoors. He loved to fish, deer hunt, and spend time building and creating with his hands. Whether he was casting a line, working on a project, or walking the woods, Allen's quiet strength, creativity, and love of nature shone through.

Allen had very strong values and never feared taking on new opportunities. He did everything with honesty and integrity. Despite facing numerous challenges, Allen never wavered in his love for his family or commitment to living life fully. Above all, Allen was a man devoted to his family. His greatest pride was in the people he loved, and his warmth, wisdom, and steady presence will be forever missed.

Allen's life was one well lived—full of love, laughter, hard work, and kindness. His family and friends will carry his memory with them always, honoring him by living with the same compassion, determination, and love that he showed every day. The family asks that Allen be remembered for the profound impact that he had on the lives of those who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Graveside Service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, August 29, 2025, in Happy Valley Memorial Park with Pastor Doug Hartley and Pastor Allen Johnson officiating. Active Pallbearers who are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 1:20 p.m. Friday will be: John Shearin, Danny Royston, Chet Ridgeway, Cullen McCollister, Elijah Whicker and Carson Atkinson.
