Obituary

David Allen Goodwin, age 79, of Elizabethton, went home to be with His Lord on January 6, 2026, following a brief illness.
He was born in Banner Elk, NC to James Austin Goodwin and Evadne Grindstaff Goodwin. Allen was preceded in death by his parents, brothers - James Frank Goodwin, Robert Lee Goodwin and mother and father-in law, Elmer and Elsie Carden.
Allen's memory is cherished by his wife, Frances and son, Austin; his sister Jean Hester and brother John Austin Goodwin, sister-in-law, Judy Goodwin and several special nieces and nephews as well as numerous close friends.
Faith and family were very important to Allen. Allen presently attended Lynn Valley Baptist Church, particularly enjoyed his Sunday school class.
At the age of nine, growing up in Lynn Valley, Allen helped a neighbor milk 20 cows and was paid a quarter for each milking and a pig. He sold the pig for $35 and purchased two baby calves and this was the beginning of his cattle business which lasted a lifetime. Allen graduated from Elizabethton High School in 1964.
He was an affiliate broker with Street Realty and Auctioneer with Goodwin-Street Auction Company for forty years.   He was a past director of the Carter County Farm Bureau and a member of the Carter County Cattlemen's Association.
He was happiest when driving his tractor, cutting hay, checking on his cattle and working with his son.  For numerous years, Allen enjoyed growing sweet corn for his community  and we plan to carry on that tradition.
We want to thank Vicki Ray, Jaclyn Wilson, Debbie Bishop and numerous other friends and family for their assistance during this time.
Receiving of friends will be from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.  followed by a Celebration of Life at 1:00 p.m. Friday, January 9, 2026, at Lynn Valley Baptist Church, 1367 Broad Street, Elizabethton, TN., with Pastor Chris Hughes and Rev. Walker Roberson, Officiating. Entombment at Happy Valley Memorial Park Mausoleum of Peace following the service. Allen preferred not naming pallbearers for fear of leaving someone out. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Lynn Valley Baptist Church Building Fund or Samaritan's  Purse. Condolences for the Goodwin Family may be sent to our website: www.memorialfcelizabethton.com.
